The electronic border pass is a machine readable electronic travel document in card format, which primarily complies with the Local Border Traffic Agreement between Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, the ICAO 9303 international standard on travel documents and the European Council Regulations Nos. EC 1030/2002 and EC 380/2008 on the standard residence permit model. Pursuant to the aforementioned Agreement, those eligible to receive a border pass include all Croatian citizens who reside near the border with Bosnia-Herzegovina and need to make frequent border crossings. This implies the existence of an economic, social, family or other justified link with the border area, which allows them to cross the national border at those crossings for local border traffic that are specified in their passes, as well as to stay in the territory of the other signatory state to the Agreement for an uninterrupted period of up to seven days.
